Animal Planet’s faux documentaries “Mermaids: The Bodies Found” (2012) and “Mermaids: The New Evidence” (2013) caused something of a stir. Indeed, the shows were ratings hits (both shows had a combined audience of 7 million viewers when they aired… the number is double that now).
